Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae

c. 782–785 · 8th century

The Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae was a law issued by Charlemagne for conquered Saxony, usually dated to around 782–785. It prescribed death for refusing baptism, cremating the dead, eating meat in Lent and other pagan practices or attacks on the church, and required tithes to be paid to churches. Its harshness was eased by the Capitulare Saxonicum of 797.
