Saxon Wars
The Saxon Wars were the campaigns fought from 772 to 804 by Charlemagne against the Saxons, a Germanic people living east of the Rhine. The conflict involved repeated annual campaigns, mass deportations and the forced Christianisation of the Saxons. Accounts of the Carolingian Empire present the wars as showing both the strengths and limits of Carolingian military power.
