Castell y Bere

c. 1221 · 13th century

Castell y Bere is a ruined Welsh castle in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, built by Llywelyn the Great from about 1221 to secure the southern border of his lands. Standing on a rocky ridge in the Dysynni valley, it was one of the largest castles of the Welsh princes. English forces captured it in 1283 during Edward I's conquest, and it was abandoned after a siege in 1294.
