Chaldia
Chaldia was a mountainous region of north-eastern Anatolia inland from Trebizond, around present-day Gümüşhane, named after the ancient Chaldoi. Under Byzantium it became a military province (theme) in the ninth century, with Trebizond as its capital. In the Empire of Trebizond it was a frontier district held by powerful local families who supplied soldiers but often acted on their own.
