Chambéry
Chambéry is a city in the French Alps, historic capital of Savoy, set between the Bauges and Chartreuse massifs. The counts of Savoy bought it in 1232, made it their capital in 1295 and kept the Holy Shroud in its castle chapel from 1502 until 1578. It lost its role when Emmanuel Philibert moved the capital to Turin in 1563, and it passed to France with Savoy in 1860.
