Chan Chan

c. 850–1470 · 9th century

Chan Chan was the capital of the Chimú kingdom on the north coast of Peru, near modern Trujillo, and the largest adobe city of the pre-Columbian Americas. It contained some ten walled royal compounds with courts, storerooms and burial platforms decorated with relief friezes. The Incas conquered it around 1470, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
