Chañarcillo
Chañarcillo is a former silver-mining district in the Atacama region of northern Chile, south of Copiapó. Its rich deposits, discovered in 1832, set off a silver rush that made it one of the most productive silver mines in the Americas for several decades. The wealth it generated financed railways, banks and the growth of Copiapó.
