Chand Bibi

1550–1600 · 16th century

Chand Bibi was a princess of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate who also served as regent of the Bijapur Sultanate. She is best known for defending the city of Ahmadnagar against the Mughal army of Prince Murad in 1595 to 1596, which forced a treaty. When the Mughals returned in 1600 she was killed, reportedly by her own troops, and the city fell.
