Chicama Valley

The Chicama Valley is a river valley on the desert north coast of Peru, just north of Trujillo. Watered by irrigation since ancient times, it was a heartland of the Moche culture, whose major site of El Brujo stands near its mouth, and later of the Chimú, who linked it to the Moche valley with a long canal. The early site of Huaca Prieta lies there, and the valley is now a major sugar-producing area.
