Chocho people
The Chocho, who call themselves Ngiwa, are an Indigenous people of the Mixteca Alta in north-western Oaxaca, Mexico, centred on the Coixtlahuaca valley. Their language belongs to the Popolocan branch of the Oto-Manguean family and is closely related to Popoloca. Before the Aztec conquest in the 15th century they shared the powerful kingdom of Coixtlahuaca with Mixtec speakers, and their language is now endangered.
