Mixteca Alta
The Mixteca Alta is the highland part of the Mixtec region of western Oaxaca, Mexico. From around 900 it was divided into small kingdoms such as Tilantongo, Teozacoalco and Coixtlahuaca, whose ruling families are recorded in painted deerskin codices. The Aztec Empire conquered much of the region in the 15th century.
