Chōshū Domain

Also known as Choshu

Choshu was a feudal domain in western Japan, ruled by the Mori family. With Satsuma, it led the opposition to the Tokugawa Shogunate in the 1860s. Choshu forces were central to the Boshin War and the Meiji Restoration, and its leaders dominated the early government of the Empire of Japan.
