Chosokabe Kunichika

1504–1560 · 16th century

Chosokabe Kunichika was a Japanese warlord of Tosa province on Shikoku and head of the Chosokabe clan in the Sengoku period. Raised in exile after his father's death in a war among the local families, he recovered the clan castle of Oko and rebuilt Chosokabe power in central Tosa. His son Chosokabe Motochika, who succeeded him in 1560, unified Tosa and went on to conquer most of Shikoku.
