Christian III of Denmark

1503–1559 · 16th century

Christian III of Denmark was king of Denmark and Norway from 1534 to 1559. He won the throne in the civil war known as the Count's Feud and in 1536 introduced the Lutheran Reformation, seizing the lands of the church and strengthening the crown. In 1537 he declared Norway a province of the Danish crown, though it kept its own laws.
