Friedrichstadt

1621 · 17th century

Friedrichstadt is a small town in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, founded in 1621 by Duke Frederick III of Holstein-Gottorp for Dutch Remonstrants fleeing persecution. Built in Dutch style with canals and gabled houses, it was meant to become a trading centre and offered freedom of worship to several faiths. It is still known as the Dutch town of the region.
