Church of Ireland

The Church of Ireland is the Anglican church in Ireland. After the Reformation it became the established state church, though most of the population remained Catholic, and it held the ancient cathedrals and parish revenues, including tithes paid by Catholics. It was united with the Church of England in 1801 and disestablished in 1871, and today it is organised on an all-Ireland basis.
