Composition of Connacht
The Composition of Connacht was a settlement of 1585 between the English government under the lord deputy Sir John Perrot and the lords of Connacht and Thomond. Gaelic lords gave up their traditional exactions in exchange for fixed rents to the crown and secure title to land under English law. It weakened the power of Gaelic chiefs and extended English common law in western Ireland.
