Convention of Mombello

1797 · 18th century

The Convention of Mombello was the agreement of 6 June 1797, made at Napoleon Bonaparte's headquarters in the villa of Mombello near Milan, under which the aristocratic Republic of Genoa was replaced by the democratic Ligurian Republic. It followed a pro-French rising in Genoa and placed the new state under French protection with a constitution on the French model.
