Councils of Braga

561, 572 · 6th century

The Councils of Braga were church councils held at Bracara Augusta, capital of the Suebic kingdom in Gallaecia. The first, in 561, condemned the Priscillianist heresy and settled church discipline after the Suebi's return to Catholicism; the second, in 572 under Martin of Braga, organised the bishoprics of the kingdom. Further councils met there in the Visigothic period.
