Cripps Mission

1942 · 20th century

The Cripps Mission was a British attempt in March and April 1942 to secure Indian cooperation in the Second World War. Sir Stafford Cripps offered India dominion status and an elected constitution-making body after the war, with the right of provinces to stay out. The Indian National Congress and the Muslim League both rejected the proposals, and the failure led Congress to launch the Quit India Movement in August 1942.
