Stafford
Stafford is the county town of Staffordshire in the English Midlands. Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians, fortified it as a burh in 913 during her campaigns against the Danes, and it became the centre of the shire created around it in the 10th century. After the Norman Conquest a castle was built nearby.
