Brecon Castle

c. 1093 · 11th century

Brecon Castle is a Norman castle at Brecon in mid Wales, built by Bernard de Neufmarché after his conquest of the Welsh kingdom of Brycheiniog around 1093. It was the centre of the marcher lordship of Brecknock, held in turn by the de Braose, de Bohun and Stafford families. Parts of the great hall and towers survive, partly incorporated into a hotel.
