Brecknockshire

Also known as Breconshire

Brecknockshire, or Breconshire, is a historic county of south-central Wales with its county town at Brecon. It was created in 1536 from the Norman marcher lordship of Brecknock, itself carved out of the Welsh kingdom of Brycheiniog after 1093. Largely mountainous, it includes much of the Brecon Beacons. Since 1974 it has formed part of Powys.
