Llangorse Lake
Llangorse Lake is the largest natural lake in south Wales, near Brecon in the Brecon Beacons. A crannog near its northern shore, an artificial island of timber and stone dated by tree rings to the 890s, was a royal residence of the kings of Brycheiniog and is the only one known in Wales. In 916 a Mercian force sent by Æthelflæd destroyed it and captured the king's wife.
