Person
Rhys ap Tewdwr
Rhys ap Tewdwr was king of Deheubarth in south-west Wales from about 1078 to 1093. He held his throne against rivals partly through an arrangement with William the Conqueror, who came to St Davids in 1081. In 1093 he was killed near Brecon fighting the Norman Bernard de Neufmarché, and his death opened south Wales to Norman conquest. His children Gruffydd and Nest carried on his line.
