de Braose family
The de Braose family were Anglo-Norman barons from Briouze in Normandy who became some of the most powerful marcher lords in Wales, holding Brecknock, Radnor, Builth, Abergavenny and Gower. William de Braose, 4th Lord of Bramber, fell out with King John, who had his wife and eldest son starved to death in 1210. The main line died out in the 13th century, and its lands passed by marriage to families such as the Bohuns and Mortimers.
