Staffordshire

Staffordshire is a county in the West Midlands of England, in the upper Trent valley, with Stafford as its county town. The area lay in the heartland of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia, whose bishopric was at Lichfield and whose wealth is reflected in the Staffordshire Hoard found in 2009. In the industrial era the Potteries around Stoke-on-Trent made it the centre of English ceramics.
