Darangen

The Darangen is the epic of the Maranao people of the Lake Lanao region on Mindanao in the Philippines. Its long cycles of chanted verse tell of the hero Bantugan and other heroes, preserving Maranao history, customary law, values and aesthetics. It was traditionally performed at weddings and other celebrations over several nights, and UNESCO recognised it as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
