Adat
Adat refers to the body of customary law and traditional practice in the Malay world and the Indonesian archipelago. It governed matters such as land, inheritance and social relations, often alongside religious law. In the Majapahit Empire, local adat structures allowed communities to keep their own customs under the authority of the Javanese court.
