Day of the Sea
The Day of the Sea is a Bolivian national commemoration held every 23 March, the anniversary of the death of Eduardo Abaroa at the Battle of Topáter in 1879, at the start of the War of the Pacific. It mourns the loss of Bolivia's Pacific coast to Chile and affirms its claim to sovereign access to the sea, with parades, speeches and ceremonies by the Bolivian navy.
