Debre Libanos
Debre Libanos is a monastery in the Shewa highlands north of Addis Ababa, founded in the 13th century by the saint Tekle Haymanot. Its abbot, the echege, became the leading figure of Ethiopian monasticism. In May 1937, after the attempt on Rodolfo Graziani's life, Italian troops massacred hundreds of its monks and pilgrims.
