Deflation

Also known as deflationary

Deflation is a sustained fall in the general level of prices, often linked to a shortage of money. In the Qing Empire, a silver-based monetary economy depended on silver imports, and their disruption in the early nineteenth century produced deflationary pressures that worsened fiscal strain and weakened provincial administration.
