Dictionnaire de Trévoux

1704 · 18th century

The Dictionnaire de Trévoux was a French dictionary and encyclopaedia first published in 1704 at Trévoux, in the Dombes, by Jesuit scholars. Based on the dictionary of Antoine Furetière, it was expanded in many editions up to 1771, the last in eight volumes. It was one of the main reference works of 18th-century France and a Catholic rival to the Encyclopédie.
