Dicuil
Dicuil was an Irish monk and scholar who worked at the Carolingian court in the early 9th century. Around 825 he wrote De mensura orbis terrae, a geographical survey of the world, in which he recorded that Irish hermits had lived on islands north of Britain, probably the Faroes, until driven out by Norse raiders. He also described clerics who had visited Iceland, which he called Thule, around 795.
