Diet of Worms (1495)

1495 · 15th century

The Diet of Worms of 1495, held under Maximilian I, launched the Imperial Reform of the Holy Roman Empire. It proclaimed the Eternal Public Peace, banning private feuds, created the Imperial Chamber Court and introduced a general imperial tax, the Common Penny. At the same diet Maximilian raised the County of Württemberg to a duchy.
