Stuttgart
Stuttgart is the capital of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, lying in a basin beside the Neckar. It probably began as a stud farm (Stuotgarten) in the 10th century, became the residence of the counts of Württemberg in the 14th century and was later the capital of the duchy, kingdom and state. It is a major industrial centre, home to Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
