Directorate of Ukraine

1918–1920 · 20th century

The Directorate of Ukraine was the collective revolutionary government of the Ukrainian People's Republic, formed in November 1918 to overthrow Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky's German-backed Ukrainian State. Led first by Volodymyr Vynnychenko and from 1919 by Symon Petliura, it took Kyiv in December 1918 and restored the republic, but it lost the capital to the Bolsheviks in 1919 and was driven into exile by 1920.
