Dong Chang

d. 896 · 9th century

Dong Chang (died 896) was a late Tang warlord who controlled Yuezhou, in modern Zhejiang, as military governor. In 895 he proclaimed himself emperor of a state called Luoping, but the Tang court ordered his former subordinate Qian Liu to suppress him, and Qian Liu's forces captured him in 896. His defeat gave Qian Liu control of the Zhejiang region, the basis of the later Wuyue kingdom.
