Leifeng Pagoda

975 · 10th century

The Leifeng Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda on Sunset Hill on the south shore of West Lake in Hangzhou, China. It was built in 975 by Qian Chu, the last king of Wuyue. The original tower, long weakened by fire and by people taking its bricks, collapsed in 1924, and a new pagoda was built over the ruins in 2002. It is famous in Chinese culture through the Legend of the White Snake.
