Dora Baltea

The Dora Baltea is a river of north-western Italy that rises below Mont Blanc and flows through the Aosta Valley and past Ivrea to join the Po. In antiquity the Salassi worked gold deposits in its valley by washing, and quarrels with Roman contractors over its water led to war. Its valley carries the main roads to the Great and Little St Bernard passes.
