Aosta
Aosta is the capital of the Aosta Valley in north-western Italy. It was founded in 25 BCE as the Roman colony of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum after the conquest of the Salassi, and preserves its Roman street grid, walls, theatre and the Arch of Augustus. In the Middle Ages it came under the House of Savoy, and Anselm of Canterbury was born there.
