Early Lê dynasty
The Early Lê dynasty ruled Đại Cồ Việt, in northern Vietnam, from 980 to 1009. Its founder Lê Hoàn took power from the Đinh dynasty as a Song invasion loomed and defeated the Song in 981, also campaigning against Champa. After the violent reign of his son Lê Long Đĩnh, the court chose Lý Công Uẩn, who founded the Lý dynasty.
