Edward Balliol

c. 1283–1364 · 14th century

Edward Balliol was the son of King John Balliol and a claimant to the Scottish throne. In 1332, backed by the English 'Disinherited' nobles, he invaded Scotland, won the Battle of Dupplin Moor and was crowned at Scone, opening the Second War of Scottish Independence. Dependent on Edward III, he never won lasting support, and in 1356 he surrendered his claim to the English king.
