Second War of Scottish Independence

1332–1357 · 14th century

The Second War of Scottish Independence began in 1332 when Edward Balliol, backed by the 'Disinherited' nobles and later by Edward III of England, invaded Scotland against the young David II. The Scots suffered heavy defeats at Dupplin Moor, Halidon Hill and Neville's Cross, where David was captured, but kept their independence. The war ended with the Treaty of Berwick of 1357, which released David for a ransom.
