Edward Augustus Freeman

1823–1892 · 19th century

Edward Augustus Freeman was an English historian and Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford from 1884. His best-known work is the History of the Norman Conquest of England, and in his History of Federal Government he made the Achaean League a model of a federal state. Admired for his learning, he is now also criticised for his racial views of the English past.
