Edward VIII
Edward VIII was king of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and emperor of India from January to December 1936. His wish to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee, provoked a constitutional crisis, and he abdicated in favour of his brother George VI, becoming Duke of Windsor and spending most of his remaining life in France.
