Ely O'Carroll

Ely O'Carroll was a Gaelic lordship in the Irish midlands, covering much of what is now south County Offaly and north County Tipperary around Birr. It took its name from the ancient kingdom of Éile and from the O'Carrolls who ruled it from the 11th century until the 16th. After the English conquest it was divided between King's County and Tipperary.
