County Offaly
County Offaly is a county in the Irish midlands. It was created in 1556 under Mary I, when the lands of the O'Connor Faly of Uí Failge and neighbouring territories were shired and planted with English settlers as King's County, named after Mary's husband Philip, with Daingean renamed Philipstown. The old Gaelic name Offaly was restored after Irish independence.
