Engelberg
Engelberg is a village and mountain resort in the canton of Obwalden in central Switzerland, lying in a high valley below Titlis. It grew around the Benedictine abbey founded in 1120, whose abbots ruled the valley as a small independent territory until 1798. The abbey still exists, and its baroque church dates from the 1730s. Engelberg was joined to Obwalden in 1815.
