Euthydemus I

r. c. 225–200 BCE · 3rd century BCE

Euthydemus I was a Greco-Bactrian king from Magnesia who overthrew Diodotus II around 225 BCE and founded the Euthydemid dynasty. He withstood a two-year siege of Bactra by the Seleucid king Antiochus III, who in about 206 BCE recognised him as king and offered a daughter in marriage to his son Demetrius I. Under his successors the Greco-Bactrians expanded into India.
